What is Baby Massage?
Baby massage is a gentle, nurturing practice that helps parents bond with their baby through the power of touch. The technique we use today was inspired by Vimala McClure, the founder of the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM).
Vimala's journey began in the 1970s while working in an orphanage in northern India. There, she witnessed the loving tradition of massaging infants as part of daily care — a practice rooted in connection, trust, and well-being. Deeply moved, she brought this tradition back to the West and developed a baby massage routine that blended Indian massage strokes, Swedish massage, reflexology, and gentle yoga principles, specially tailored for babies.
Vimala’s method includes techniques to help with common issues such as colic and gas, while also promoting better sleep, improved digestion, and emotional bonding between parent and child.
At Baby Massage and Me, we honour Vimala’s vision by teaching this evidence-based, heart-led approach in a calm and supportive environment, helping families grow closer through the simple, powerful gift of touch.
